Our Environment is Fundamentally Important

1/25/2021

Maybe it’s the way I was brought up. Born and raised in Montoursville, PA (pop. 4000), I was surrounded by lazy creeks, rolling ridgelines, hemlock riddled state game lands and what was assuredly a greater deer population than people. Maybe it’s because I’ve journeyed through 38-years of personal and professional paths that consistently intersect with environmental influences.

Whatever the reasons, I have a soft spot in my heart for our natural world. I appreciate it, respect it, and love it. I want to raise awareness of it’s importance so that others can enjoy it for years to come.

Throughout the creation and management of Human Powered Movement, I’ve kept a keen eye on the impact we have on our environment and being as eco-friendly as reasonably possible. This platform must have positive impact on participants, followers, supporting brands and especially the world we live.
There are reasons why Human Powered Movement (and my agency, MJ Bratton) are 1% For The Planet Members. This environmental commitment and the focus on aligning with like-minded supporters is intentional.

It's fundamentally important and simply the right thing to do for our environment.

These fundamental concepts are also at the core of Recover Brands who's mission is to build the most environmentally friendly and socially responsible products possible. Our relationship makes sense.

From recycled water bottles to apparel
I’ve known and been working with Bill (co-founder) and the rest of the crew at Recover since 2013. They produce a variety of 100% recycled and sustainably sourced products including shirts, hats, hoodies, socks, bags, etc. My laundry basket confirms that I utilize their products daily.

Each shirt is made from 8 recycled plastic bottles and upcycle cotton fibers. Pretty cool. Arguably even more impressive, taking into account the mass production of garments on the global stage, the Local Layer's entire supply chain is contained within a 150-mile radius from start to finish.

I’m excited showcase them in the Human Powered Movement Online Store  and it’s only natural to feature them during our upcoming free #PlasticFreeFeb virtual challenge where winners will be the first to get their hands on our branded gear before it goes on sale to the general public.

Throughout our 8+ year relationship alone, I’m personally proud to have a part in diverting over 400,000 plastic bottles from the landfill and saving over 100 million gallons of water due to their sustainable manufacturing process.
They have a great business model, are deeply involved in supporting environmental initiatives across the country, and the manufacturing approach is just flat out cool.

There's a long list of reasons why Recover is an ideal partner for Human Powered Movement. It doesn’t hurt that when you walk into their HQ, you’ll share the room with some stellar people, in addition to a mountain bike, skateboard or pile of running shoes.

It’s clear that we share a fundamentally important goal of supporting and enjoying our environment. Your support helps too.
