Hi, I’m Cain. I'm 13 years old and I live in Breckenridge, CO. Outside of school, I love to run, Nordic ski, and play soccer. Living in an active "mountain town" like Breck, I get to see so many beautiful outdoor places and get to experience so many different things on a regular basis. It's pretty dang cool. I’m on the Track and Field and Cross-Country teams for my school. During the warmer months, I play travel soccer and run for both my club and school teams. Considering everything is covered in snow for the other half of the year I dig skiing for the local Summit Nordic Ski Team. I love to compete for these different teams in races and games. Like many others, pre-race/pre-game is sometimes hard for me because of the stress and anticipation for what might happen. I use this motivation to push myself harder at the next practice and to keep myself outside rather than inside playing video games. Races and games are always about pushing yourself, learning what your best strategy is and a lot of the time, is a great learning experience. Afterwards, it gives me a ton of motivation for additional training and for the next event or adventure. Another one of the things that makes me love to be outdoors is having a team and friends to train and race with. I have lots of friends on each of my teams and we always have fun together. Pushing myself harder, increasing my athletic ability, and to be honest, being outdoors is just fun! I like going on runs with my parents (Paul and Kelly) as well because I love to spend time with them outdoors and they both are amazing ultra-runners which gives me a lot of motivation in my own running. In 2019, my dad ran the Leadville Trail 100 Run which is “The Race Across the Sky”. It is a 100-mile trail race that we have in the Town of Leadville. It’s called the race across the sky is because the entire course is between 9,500ft and 12,500ft of elevation. One day, my goal is to run the Leadville 100. Overall, the reason I love to be outdoors is to see new places, explore, be active, set goals for myself and hang out with my friends and family. It's pretty simple. You should get outside once in a while too.
