Psychoactive Obituary and Rebirth

We’ve been riding high over the past week … South Fork Sampler Adventure Race was another massive success, our 6th BDay celebration with our funky friends at Great Wagon Run Club was another pinata and champagne soaked rager, an HPM supported 5000mi bikepacking trip is kicking off this week and Global Running Day was Wednesday. Behind the scenes, however, things have been a little chaotic.

2 weeks ago, we found out that our host venue and beneficiary for Psychoactive Last Runner Standing Event over the past 4 years has decided to not allow us to host the event at their property this year. Blackberry Ridge Farm is a family owned and operated farm that has previously and graciously opened up their property and their home to the HPM community.

Psychoactive quickly became one of the most unique and downright bad ass running events in the Southeast. Complete with a Chicken Lap, a course that weaves through rows of artisan hemp & colorful wildflowers, punchy 45% inclines with a massive bee colony at the top and antics that some would say are NSFW. This last point is eventually what tipped the scales for the farm owners. As the event grew and vibes evolved, the HPM community naturally, and rightfully, continued to ratchet up the weirdness in ways that are beautifully aligned with our brand culture (and frankly the greater trail/ultra running community as a whole).

We’re obviously not thrilled and are naturally frustrated with the news, but we do respect the decision and greatly appreciate their hospitality over the past 4 years. They were the ones that gave us the initial opportunity to launch Psychoactive in the first place … A full-blown running experience that has blossomed into something pretty dang special for thousands!

At the end of the day, their threshold for our atypical approach to things is a little different from our threshold and enablement of that exact concept and culture. We have talked at length with them, and to be clear, they are not asking us to change our approach (nor would we). Also we fully respect their right and ability to allow (or not allow) events to occur on their farm, and at their home.

Again, to be clear, we have zero intention of letting this incredibly beautiful concept, community gathering, and running party shrivel up and die. We have been feverishly and actively searching for a new host venue over the past 2 weeks and hope to share more information shortly. We will all bear witness to a glorious rebirth under a new name, and at a new venue with even bigger, better, and weirder experience for ALL humans!

Stay tuned and buckle TF up because the rebirth is going to be absolutely glorious!!
