Author: Adam Bratton Read Time: 2 mins Longtime HPM friends will fondly recount how the “movement” community sprang to life. Covid-19 was sweeping the globe, and we immediately identified the need to inspire more activity in people’s lives. In-person events were modified to virtual formats and broad reaching digital challenges were sprouting up all over the world. We embraced this concept, added our own environmental vibe, offered meaningful and authentic programming and the rest is history. 4.5+ years later, we just completed another Virtual Challenge and it feels like we’re back in the good ol days of enabling movement from literal coast to coast. Ironically, HPM’s very first public offering in May of 2020 was an Off Road 70.3 Triathlon. We wanted to see who would get off their covid-soaked couch and challenge themselves both physically and mentally while completing a non-traditional Half Ironman distance triathlon in either a single effort or throughout the 10-day window. The reaction and participation blew our minds straight out of the human powered gates. This inspired years of continued ”Virtual Challenges” across sports, formats and styles through 2022. On a parallel path, our in-person EVENTS throughout our basecamp of Charlotte, NC were also gaining traction, and routinely sold out over and over. We were clearly on to something but wanted to ensure that the Human Powered Movement concept, appeal, and community remained accessible regardless of geographic location. We brought back the virtual challenge concept this past July for our Free Virtual Triathlon entitled “Just Tri It!” and we were once again blown away by the reaction. While some might argue that the the Covid “Virtual Event” world has run its course, HPM is here to tell you that people still want, and in many cases, need a little encouragement to get up, get out and get moving. You can read the “Just Tri It!” recap HERE, including efforts from all corners of the country … Maine, Florida, Oregon, California and many states in between including a group gathering for our Charlotte, NC contingent … but know that we are already scheming ideas to bring more virtual action to our amazing and inspiring human powered community through this virtual format. If you have a wild idea for another Virtual Challenge, or want us to bring back and old favorite, we’d love to hear it at [email protected] … Otherwise, keep an eye out for some new ways to get active in your own way, and at your own pace. Our mission, after all, is to inspire more activity in people’s lives. And that’s exactly what we intent to keep doing. Just make sure that you are ready for whatever we throw your way next ... and rally your friends so you can create your own Finish Chute!
