Author: Adam Bratton Read Time: 2 mins The concept behind a new HPM initiative unveiled itself this past May when I was thumbing through Issue 32 of Adventure Journal. An article entitled “Explorer’s Club Flag” immediately flooded me with intrigue and adventure. The Explorers Club’s concept of a “Flag" being carried during expeditions to the farthest reaches of the human spirit over decades of exploration immediately struck a chord within the core of what HPM is all about. Welcome to Human Powered Movement’s Adventure Club.
Author: Adam Bratton Read Time: 4 mins If you’ve been a part of the Human Powered Movement community for any extended period of time, you’ve undoubtedly seen our eco-friendly approach across all facets of the HPM vibe. Sustainable Merch, Cup Free Events, Highway and Stream Cleanups, 1% For The Planet Membership, and more. I previously penned a journal in April of 2022 entitled “Will You Love Mother Earth With Us?” and figured it was time to spotlight some new efforts that HPM is doing and how you can be a part of that planet friendly, tree hugging approach!
Author: Adam Bratton Read Time: 2 mins Longtime HPM friends will fondly recount how the “movement” community sprang to life. Covid-19 was sweeping the globe, and we immediately identified the need to inspire more activity in people’s lives. In-person events were modified to virtual formats and broad reaching digital challenges were sprouting up all over the world. We embraced this concept, added our own environmental vibe, offered meaningful and authentic programming and the rest is history. 4.5+ years later, we just completed another Virtual Challenge and it feels like we’re back in the good ol days of enabling movement from literal coast to coast.
Guest Q&A: Matt King Read Time: 6 mins Matt King is a seasoned vet when it comes to endurance efforts ... he has multiple 100 mile finishes under his belt, countless day-long shifts owning/operating his multiple restaurants, and has the tall task of chasing around his 5 kids on a daily basis!
His latest endeavor, however, was paying a visit to an old friend ... the Hell Hole Hundred in the low country of South Carolina and put on by Palmetto Ultras. This old friend graciously delivered a DNF (Did Not Finish) in 2023. With many lessons learned from the previous year and a reinvigorated supporting case of goons, Matt arose from the fiery ashes of hell to crush his latest challenge. It's been exactly 1 month from this 100 mile finish, and we tossed a few questions to get his perspective, revisit the experience, and see what's next on this man's never ending quest for finding out what's around life's next bend. |
