Guest Q&A: Kristi Bratton Read Time: 3 mins Kristi Bratton is not only the ever so patient and supportive wife of HPM's head enabler, Adam, but she is also a seasoned mover and shaker in her own right! (check out HPM Short Film "CRUSHED IT!" or her previous Journal entitled "My Mount Marathon"). This past weekend while juggling a hectic schedule and logistics of a family vacation to Williamsburg, VA, she ran a 5K through Colonial Williamsburg. This wasn't just any old 5K, this was Kristi's 100th straight weekend of running at least 3.1 miles. In lieu of a finisher medal and a banana, Adam surprised her with a "100 & Fabulous" tiara and sash and some questions to learn more about this ongoing streak and to see what's next ... QUESTION: How did this streak first come about? ANSWER: I just wanted to give myself a challenge that would keep me running in between races, but also something that was within reach. I started with saying “Sunday 5Ks” but quickly realized it was easier for me to just do it at some point over the weekend. In December of 2023 I made the decision that I would start in January, but then decided why wait? My first one was Christmas Eve (morning) 2023. I even got Jessica Castañeda on board the streaking train ... she will hit her 100th week next month! QUESTION: Were these all races, laps around the neighborhood, different route each time? ANSWER: More than 90% of the 5Ks were just runs around the neighborhood or on the local greenways. I run Around the Crown 10K every year and have run the NoDa 5K and Black Out Friday the last couple of years. I also just did my first half this past March at Shamrock in Virginia Beach! QUESTION: Most memorable or fun 5k? Answer: I would have to say that the 2025 NoDa 5K was pretty special because both of our boys ran it with us and completed their first ever 5K! QUESTION: Any other noteworthy runs during this streak? Answer: In August of this past year, I ran my longest run thus far. 16 miles during the Run 4 the Border event in Charlotte. During that 16 miles I also drank two Baja Blasts, and ate a potato taco and a Doritos locos taco. Sounds a little loco, but it was a great excuse to eat Taco Bell and not feel guilty about it! QUESTION: Are you done with the streak now that you've hit triple digit weeks? If not, is there an end number in mind? Answer: Definitely not done. At this point it’s just part of my routine, so there is no real end in sight. When I started this, I didn’t set an end goal. Just “every weekend”. So… forever?! QUESTION: Forever?!?! Love to hear it ... We'll have to check back in a few more years down the road! In the short term, what's next? Answer: Well HPM's next Free Virtual Challenge called "Holiday Streaking" starts on Thanksgiving so that is just around the corner and I am eyeing my first 50K at Perennial Endurance Run in March! After that, we'll see where life takes things! QUESTION: Advice for a none streaker who might be reading this? Answer: Just start with something that’s not too far-fetched and that you can reasonably make happen. For example, go for a walk each day. Don’t even set a distance at first. That way there is less pressure. Before you know it, you will be walking farther and it will be such a part of your routine that you feel weird if you don’t do it.
